We have spent the last five nights in Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. We had been excited about this part of our trip from the first time we read about this region. For those of you that are not familiar with Cameron Highlands, it is an area north of Kuala Lumpur high up in the mountains. However, these are not your normal mountains. They are covered with jungles, tea plants and tea plantations. One of the most famous plantations is Boh, which makes all kinds of teas and they all are delicious. We had some amazing days exploring the area. We hiked through the muddy jungle to one of the highest peaks in the area, helped a local worker cut tea leaves and tried to end each night with a scone at Lord's Cafe, world famous for their mouth watering scones. We could go on and on about this place, but let's get to the pictures.
Day 1- our easy day or so we were told. It started off with a paved trail and ended in us pushing our way through bushes and jumping over fallen trees. This dog turned around before the trail got rough. He must be a local.

Robinson Falls- so far so good

And then the excitement picked up

We were fairly certain we were lost, but when we got this view, we figured we were ok.

When we finally popped out on a street, we met some fellow travelers who accompanied us for the rest of the journey. The four of us made our way up a hill to one of the plantations.

This is Rachel, Liz and Mila

From the viewpoint

We took a quick tour of the facilities

And then we were on our way back down the hill. This gentleman was hard at work and asked us if we wanted to give it a try

First, Liz

Then, Scott

We think he was the best at it. We are pretty sure he told us that he cuts 500 baskets/ day. Ours was more of a 20 basket/ day pace

A couple more views before the sky opened up. Day 1 was a welcome start to our trip

(Scott thought this was the biggest chicken alive) I just saw that Mila added this comment. It was the biggest chicken alive

Day 2- hike to Gunung Brinchang (one of the highest peaks in the area). This was a true jungle trek and our shoes paid the price. We got along with Rachel and Liz so well that we all decided to do this hike together
Along the way

We are going to move into this house...someday

The trailhead

The trek begins. It may have been short, but it was arduous

Mila's "I can't believe I just bought new shoes face"

Near the top of the mountain

We made it

Back down the road and into the Mossy Forrest

Yep, we are still going the right way

Now, on our way towards the second of two Boh tea plantations

Spiders enjoying the view

We have arrived

Us enjoying our vanilla tea with a view (Mila didn't want this picture in- sorry for the weird facial expression)

On the way back we stopped at a bee farm. Don't need to do that again

Day 3 was reserved for laundry, photo transferring, relaxing, and scones. No pictures currently available
Day 4- we walked to the city of Brinchang which is where many of the farms and other tourist destinations are located
Along the way

On our very last day we had one of our favorite meals in the city of Tanah Rata where we called home for our stay

We will miss Cameron Highlands very much, but we hope to have a scone there again one day. We are moving on to Penang, an island in northern Malaysia where we will spend the next 6 nights. See you next time.

nice strawberry pic (looking fruity hooty)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pics guys. It looks like one of those places that pictures can never do justice to... Way to get them shoes dirty Mila! :) Looks like you were better off having them in the end. Looks pretty slippery... How was the tea? Let's all go back together for the Scone next time :) I love the landscape pics (obviously) but the one I kept going back to most was the conveyor belt with the green stuff (tea?). I LOVE the colors on that one... Thanks for sharing. Safe travels...
ReplyDeleteThe conveyor belt was indeed tea which was delicious. I had to get new shoes because my northface were so destroyed that I think they got accidentally thrown away by housekeeping. The trail was muddy and slippery and unlike anything we hiked- we were pretty sure we would get a leech attached to us at some point.it was a fun adventure :)
DeleteWe love your comments
