We're Feeling Krabi

Hello Everyone,

We are currently on a bus heading to our fourth destination in Thailand, Koh Samui. We spent the last four days and nights around Ao Nang beach in Krabi. This beach is a little bit on the touristy side, but the scene is both vibrant and stunning. We counted five 7/11's on our street so we knew this was the place to be. Right across from our hotel, many street vendors were whipping up banana chocolate pankakes (Thai style), dragon fruit smoothies and traditional Thai meals. Each cost the equivalent of 1 or 2 USDs. When we wanted to get away from the excitement, the less crowded Phra Nang bay was just a longtail boat away. They rated Phra Nang beach as one of the top twenty beaches in the world. Not sure who they are, but we read this somewhere and it was quite nice so we didn't question it. All four days in Krabi were great. We are seeing why Thailand is a popular destination for foreigners all over the world. We are happy to have eleven more days here.

One quick story:

Public transportation all over the globe makes for some exciting adventures. We caught a bus in Phuket that was due to arrive at the main Krabi bus station. When I awoke from my PT nap (public transportation nap), the bus operator was telling us, "Krabi, we are here." We have seen bus stations before and this was not a bus station. Luckily, there were three 7/11s nearby so we stopped to ask for directions to our beach. The clerk didn't speak any English, but the girl she was talking on the phone to spoke better English than we do. We got on her headset and were redirected by the girl on the other end of the line. The 7/11 clerk then walked us a couple of blocks to a guy who offered to take us on his motorcycle, a common taxi in Thailand. We have made it a firm rule to not get on the back of a vehicle with less than four wheels. Just then, we saw a little white truck with Thai writing on the side. We flagged the driver down and sure enough, he was en route to Ao Nang beach. Morals of the story: you will always get to your destination eventually and 7/11 is a great establishment.

Anyway, please enjoy the pictures from our beach and the surrounding Railay and Phra Nang beaches.

And now for the picture of the trip

Nice place to spend a portion of our vacation

Well, time for a PT nap. We miss everyone. Can you believe our journey is half way done or that we have half left, depending how you look at it. See everyone next time from Koh Samui
